Current Goal

He is missing his own kind and hopes someone will show him round England a bit and then take him back to New Zealand. He would like to see his photo on this website with navigation points (like English Trigpoints) as often as possible.

About This Item

UK Kiwi is a key ring which my daughter Debbie brought back with other goodies from a trip to New Zealand in December 2002. He is starting his journey at Billinge Beacon, an Armada beacon near St Helens in Lancashire, England.

With many apologies to UK Kiwi's owner, this little guy stayed with us much too long, but is now on his way to New Zealand to be handed off to some friendly Kiwi geocachers. We packed him up with some reminders of his long, long stay in Canada and a couple of Kiwi Geocoins so that he won't be too lonely on his journey. We hope he travels safe and enjoys his time in New Zealand.

When I saw this TB wanted its picture with Navigation /trig points, I tried to find the Canadian equivalent. The Canadian Base Network (CBN) is a network of pillars capped with a plate having a threaded bolt on which a GPS antenna or a theodolite can be screwed to. These pillars were positioned three-dimensionally with GPS to centimetre-level accuracy. Although these pillars are usually appx 200 km apart in the more populated areas, I found one in Etobicoke (Toronto area), on the grounds of Humber College on a knoll in the arboretum. Took US-Kiwi TB for some photos on a beautiful summer day. He will soon be on his way back to NZ.
