To travel the globe in the pursuit of knowledge!
When you log the travel bug, I would like to know an interesting fact about your local area. It could be about anything - a famous person who died where you live, a particular building with an interesting past (photos welcome!), maybe even a local ghost story attributed to your village. It's up to you!
My interesting local fact relates to my village of Hethersett in Norfolk, England. In the summer of 1549 peasants got together to protest against rich robber barons who had stolen the common land, leaving the peasants to starve. Led by Robert Kett, the peasants met at an oak tree (which still stands on the outskirts of Hethersett today!) before marching 10 miles into Norwich and attracting the support of the poorer people of the city. Some 15,000 rebels eventually gathered together and their pitched battles against government forces on the streets led to a national crisis. A government army of 13,000 men eventually defeated the rebels, and Kett himself was hanged from the battlements of Norwich Castle - coincidentally where I purchased the replica Roman coin for this travel bug!
The bug itself has a large replica Roman coin attached to it dating from the time of Emperor Claudius who ruled the Roman Empire from 41 to 54AD (and conquered Britain in his spare time!).
