The recent economic downturn has pushed the American Automotive industry to the brink of extinction. This series of Travel Bugs commemorates a sample of the vehicles produced in the industry’s heyday. Ford celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1953. The Ford Crestline was the top of the line model. Powered by a 239 cubic inch 110 horsepower flathead V8, the convertible version of the Crestline (the Sunliner) was the official pace car of the 1953 Indianapolis 500. 128,302 hardtop coupes were produced at the Dearborn Assembly plant in Michigan with a base price of $1,941. The Crestline would be renamed the Fairlane in 1955, adopting the name of Henry and Clara Ford’s mansion.
