About This Item

AMTG Tennessee 2005 GC 1

Mid size coin with heft. 1.6 inches 4 mm thick nickle antique silver.  300 coins minted.  Available in other metal colors.  The front has excellent 3-D work covered with clear epoxy. The medallion has nie background metal texture.  It has raised 3-D metal work in the shape of a train, the capital, a bear and a steam boat. The edge work is unusual and the center of the medallion shows the outline of the state of Tennesseee.   The state outline is in blue enamel and the rim is in red.  The red enamel rim has script that reads "Tennesse geocoin" and "2005".  There are two spheres, done in blue and gold, with stars in the rim.  The reverse has no enamel but has bold 3-D work. The background metal texture is nice.  The medallion has a commercial logo in the medallion.  The inner rim has nice bold stars.  An excellent 2005 coin.

Info on the coin:  In 2005, geocachers in many states of the USA began to think about designing their own geocoins for their own state.
In Tennessee, it was the cacher AB4N, which has been active since August 2003, who presented the new "Tennessee state geocoin" in the geocaching forum on July 23, 2005 and announced the sale. The production was carried out by the US company KVCoins (currently: challengecoinexperts.com).
900 coins were minted in antique silver, 300 in shiny silver (nickel) and 200 in shiny gold.
From September 24, the ordered geocoins gradually arrived at their new owners. The

40 x 4 mm Tennessee Geocoin with a rope braid edge bears its name, bordered by the three stars of the state flag, in the red outer ring.  The dark blue filled map of the state is surrounded by 4 typical 3D images. For example, a riverboat represents the Mississippi region.

The surface of the front is protected by a full-surface epoxy coating.

The back, which has no colors, bears the Groundspeak symbol, surrounded by stars, the tracking code and the track information.

So many of my GCs have been muggled that I only release new ones as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. GR

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
