About This Item

AMTG King 1

Large coin with LOTS of heft.  2 inches by 1.75 inches 4 mm thick 61 grams antique bronze.  Available in other metal colors. Another great Chris Mackey design.  The detail and 3-D work is excellent. One in a series  Ace, King, Queen, and now Jack. The front has a playing card design of a king.  There are two "K" on two corners.  The medallion has two king figures each of which is holding a GPS and has signals eminating form their heads.  There is very slight muted enamel use on this side but it is only to compliment the outstanding metal design. The reverse has script that reads "Long live the king" in the rim corners. The medallion has raised script that reads "Cache is king" done with matte red enamel.. The reverse show the K's in the corners, like a card. The center is a two sided king that combines metal 3-D work and enamel.  Excellent coin.

Info on the coin:  Chris Mackey is the designer of this beautiful and artistic commercial geocoin, issued by the Geocoinstore at the end of November 2006.

The attraction of the 36.5 x 51 mm geocoin in antique gold is evident in the filigree metalwork. In order to make the 3D effect on the back particularly three-dimensional, a thickness of 4 mm was chosen. This resulted in a coin that weighed almost 62 grams.

The front shows a typical playing card design with the mirrored king image. The reference to geocaching is made by the many geocaching-Gs of different sizes, the GPS in the king's hand and the signals that emanate from both his crown and the GPS. The colours red, blue and green are only used very discreetly. The reverse bears the artistically designed name of the Geocoin highlighted in red on a background with flowers and arches. In the corners you can read "Long Live The King" very small.

A total of 1253 tracking codes are assigned to this geocoin in Groundspeak's database. In the following years, more playing card coins were created, which eventually formed a series of 5 geocoins. These include "The Queen of Caching," "The Caching Ace," "Jack of All Cache," and "Caching Fool."

I have had so many of my trackables go muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a chacher who understands. Thanks. LL

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually. After looking at the TB page for each TB that she discovered that I didn't, I found that a number of TB Codes necessary to discover the trackable were included on the TB Page itself or intentionally or as a spoiler in the photo gallery. Sometimes there was an attempt to obsure or hide the TB Code that was not entirely successful making it fairly easy to determine the TB Code needed to discover the travel bug.
