Current Goal

To travel from cache to cache, meeting other geocoins along the way. I especially like to visit benchmarks and locations of political interest. What fun it would be if my finders uploaded photos from time to time, showing me on my travels.

About This Item

"Located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado is the little traveled Republican Mountain. On the top of the mountain is a peak called Democrat. A surveyor placed a benchmark at the top of the mountain and named it Democrat. The actual benchmark is now missing, but the image on the front of this coin is the Democrat benchmark’s reference benchmark that was originally only supposed to be 5 feet from Democrat. After our investigation of the mountain top, we believe the reference mark has been moved from its original location by hikers, but it can still be found among the rocks. The hike to the top of this mountain is very steep, but it has a fantastic view. There is also a memorial located along the trail to the top.

The back of the coin shows the coordinates of Democrat Benchmark and has a detailed 3-D image of Republican Mountain. Shown along the base of the mountain are Interstate I-70 and the two towns of Silver Plume and George Town. At the peak of the mountain image are two marks: one for Republican Peak and the other for Democrat Peak. Between the two marks is the Democrat Benchmark PID KK2035, which you can view on Geocaching.com."

The picture on the cache page vs what the geocoin looks like are totally different. Made IDing this one tough. Nevertheless, it's on the road again headed for the big state of TX and Bush country 👍

It is time this coin find a new home. Like Willey Nelson says "On the Road Again" but how far no one knows for sure. -G-
