About This Item

[CZ] Mám velmi rád stromy. Z celého srdce. Jsou to úžasná stvoření, která nám toho tolik dávají a nic za to od nás nechtějí a nemají. Sázím stromy a keře, kdekoliv můžu.

ENGLISH: I like trees. Very much. I love them. They are amazing living-beings which give us so many and get nothing back. I plant tree where ever I can. It is my biggest hobby. I started plant them when I was 13 years old. My first one was Horse chestnut (27 years old - nowadays 2020 and already the grandpa :o). I have planted many others wooden friends to the wild since then.

Plant the tree – the lifetime friend

Plant the tree on your favourite spot or by the path you often walk and observe how amazing trees can be. It is beautiful relation for life.

  1. PLACE SELECTION

This is one of the most important things you should focus on before planting. The principle is – THE TREE SHOULD NOT BOTHER ANYONE! If you have a large garden, forest or other "your own" place - it is the ideal. I have already exhausted such opportunities and therefore had to look elsewhere. I do not look at who owns the land, but I notice and choose places that do not mow (often the balks), or no one pays too much attention to them, or even mow, but I feel that the tree wouldn’t mind there. I visit the place several times to make sure it will be safe there for the tree. I don't plant on the south side of the fields, because I know some farmers might not like it if the trees shade and reduce the crop.

  1. How to get a tree?

The fastest way is to buy the tree you want in gardening, of course. I planted a few of them like this as well and they make me happy as others. However, these trees have shortened and injured roots, so they grow more slowly for several years in order to build a root system.

I created my own tree nursery about 2 m2 in the garden. I either plant seeds directly on it or I transplant young annual trees from a flowerpot or from nature (from a place where there are many of them and I feel that they would not have a chance to survive). From this nursery, I usually plant two- or three-years old trees in the wild. There is more work with them after transplanting because they are smaller of course, but they do not have damaged roots so much and they grow faster.

Ideally, I would recommend buying one tree from gardening - the advantage is the immediate planting to the selected place and at the same time plant a well-growing fruit (of oak, chestnut, maple or beech) in the pot or find a small annual seedling in nature and plant it on the garden or even to an already selected place.

  1. IT CAN’T BE DONE WITHOUT WORK

In the first years after transplanting, it is necessary to take care of a young tree from time to time, so that it has a better chance of growing into adulthood. Put stakes and wire mesh; mow around (I use a sickle) so that someone doesn’t cut it by machine even with protection (it also happened to me several times with smaller trees), put new stake ( lasts 2 – 5 years) and in the first years during periods of drought to water them occasionally.

In the beginning of my planting, I just transplanted the first trees to the selected place and that was all. It was only when all of the trees (except the first Chestnut) were gnawed off by deer and hares that I realized I had to protect them somehow, and I began to give mesh and sticks to each one. However, the plastic mesh often disappeared and exposed the trees to damage. In the end, I discovered a mesh that will last and not attract too much attention (so far it was stolen only once) - the so-called rabbit mesh (with the largest possible meshes), which I always cut to the required size. However, they are lower, so I have to adjust them in the period when the trees start to overgrow them and the game could bite the top of the tree. Do not remove the mesh until the tree has a circumference of at least 40 cm - otherwise it is in danger of being destroyed by the so-called "peeling" of the bark of game (it has happened to me several times).

Well, now you know what you need. You can go and plant as many trees as you want and make lifetime friends.
