Mid size coin with heft. The front has nice relief 3-D work.There is a double rim with the outer one being in translucent red enamel and the inner in blue opaque blue. The script in the blue says "Army National Guard" and has 5 stars. The outer has script that says "Always Ready, Always There, The Securing The Home-front While While Defending The Nation". This is in raised metal work. The reverse has one rim in translucent red enamel and scrip that says "Defend The Homeland, Provide Humanitarian Support At Home And Abroad". The medallion has nice background metal texture and a raised coat of arms. The coat of arms has etched 3-D work and matte enamel. Part of a series of coins for public service. Nice coin. -------------------- The National Guard is a crucial part of the protection of the U.S.. As downsizing continues to take place in the active military, the National Guard and Reserves are taking on more of the workload. The National Guard is the militia for each U.S. state and territory and governed by each state and territory. Since 1903, they have served in every conflict along side active duty members and have responded to numerous domestic emergencies and disasters. They help protect and serve the citizens and provide relief during crisis. Consolidated together, both of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard consist of over 425,000 people.
