The Mad Mephams have always wanted to visit Grand Canyon but will be unlikely to do so for some years yet. So for now we will visit by-proxy through Darling Doris.
Doris' goal is to make it to
Rowe Well Cache near Grand Canyon's Visitor Centre
visiting as many interesting places as possible along the way.
And maybe she can then head home again!
We were looking for a TB that would be quintessentially British for this BIG trip. The Red Phone Box is the archetypical piece of British Design. Our TB is called Darling Doris after the song by 80's skiffle / gospel group Fat and Frantic which lamented the loss of the Red Phone Box in favour of the dreary glass cubical box as the UK Telecom system was modernised by BT.
The red telephone box, a public telephone kiosk designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, is a familiar sight on the streets of the United Kingdom, Malta, Bermuda and Gibraltar, and despite a reduction in their numbers in recent years, red boxes can still be seen in many places and current or ex-British Colonies around the world. The colour red was chosen to make them easy to spot. Despite being a country lass, our Doris is a K2 style box replica which is the type most associated with the City of London.
