Current Goal

The purpose of this travel bug is to travel from cache to cache, reminding people to think of thier mom's whether they are on this earth or in heaven, and remember all the love and good ole homecooking, that we will attempt to recreate, and will come close to the taste but never be able to duplicate. If you have a favorite recipe that reminds you of your mom, please pass it along so that others may know your mom through her recipes.

About This Item

Mom's Memory

This travel bug is 2 measuring spoons....A teaspoon of this and a tablespoon of that, mixed together with a lot of love turns into a chocolate cake with vanilla fudge icing that is to die for..........

CAKE..............
2 cups sifted flour;
Add ¼ tsp salt and 1 tsp baking soda (sift together 3 times);
Set Aside...........

Cream ½ cup butter or margarine;
Add 1 ¼ cup sugar, cream till fluff;
Add 2 eggs (one at time) beat well;
Add Cocoa mixture (6 TBSP cocoa mixed with 2 TBSP oil) and blend...........

To creamed margarine mixture, ALTERNATING, add 1 cup milk and the flour mixture..........

Once the above is blended, add 1 tsp vanilla.........

Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.............

ICING................
2 cups sugar;
¾ cup milk;
¾ stick butter;
Dash salt;...........
Cook on stovetop till soft boil stage......
Stir in 1 tsp vanilla..........

Pour hot icing over cooled cake...........

The mom hint to tell if icing is ready...........

Take a little icing on a spoon, begin to drizzle on a plate, as you handwrite the name Jane with the icing. It must be a capital J and small letters “ane”. If you can write the whole name and the letters run together, it is too watery, if you can only write the capital J, it is over cooked, if you can write the name and still read it, it is ready…..........

Now try learning that over the telephone from your mother-in-law, cause you want to impress your new husband….........

It worked, I handed him a piece of cake, he looked at it, smelled it, and said “When did you talk to my Mom?” Now if that isn’t the best complement a cook can earn, I don’t know what is….......We miss you Mom, and know you are smiling down on us each time we have your cake or tell this story.
