About This Item

geocoin and proxy coin

MissJenn from Groundspeak gave me this coin at the Fullersburg Meet And Greet Unwilling to part with the real coin for sentimental reasons, I'm releasing a cardboard facsimile in a 2" x 3" plastic photo case. Please treat this proxy coin as you would the real coin. Take it or leave it, move it and log it.

In less than two years the proxy coin travelled 3,724  miles, going through Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Idaho, before it rode back into Moab, Utah, and checked into "John Wayne: The Duke- AKA Marion Robert Morrison """" in November of 2011. The hotel it was staying in was ambushed a couple weeks later, and the proxy coin was never seen again.

Fortunately it was a counterfeit, and I still have the real coin in my posession.

Doing a little caching on our way to Elmhurst for lunch on our anniversary. The main focus was on Lame Tree Caches, making for many fun and fast finds. Thanks Papa Swede for placing them.

I lost another one, dang! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
I was here with nobes finding the Brookfield Library Zoo Cache. Afterwards back in the parking lot I was taking pictures of this and another coin of mine. From there we went to a couple of my caches just west of here for nobes to find. On the way I noticed the coin missing and we came back later to look, but DNFd the coin. I checked the car too. I don't have much hope of ever seeing it again. But who knows?

  • the coin... seconds before I lost it
Visited 11/15/2014 sunnyside7 took it to Pickin' Wildflowers Illinois - 35.84 miles  Visit Log

Not a great day for wildflowers, but we picked off this cache in no time. I didn't even have to look. The 7 year old found it in seconds and retrieved it. We signed in, and then he put it back just as he found it. The information sign shielded us from the hunters in the parking lot.
This was supposed to be my 3200th find, but we couldn't get to the Frontage Road To Nowhere just up the road, as we were coming from the west. So #3199 instead.

  • too much information? nobes helps me find this one
  • what makes you think it's in there?

Visited 2/24/2014 sunnyside7 took it to Guess! Illinois - 170.57 miles  Visit Log

After logging Gumball Rally last week, this was the last of Badlands nine Bemis puzzle caches left on my unfound list. I figured it might be easier to find when the snow melts, but after finally "guessing" the right numbers I was anxious to get this one in the books.

At GZ I dug all around a suspect spot but didn't find anything. I extended my search radius and dug and scraped around several other places, but it was not possible to excavate every possible spot. Realizing I might not find this today ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ one last time I followed my GPSr to zero out, and it took me back to the same place I started at. I scraped and dug at the area inside of the host that I had earlier scraped around, even though there was some thorny vegetation growing out of the frozen ground and debris. I was able to remove a couple small pieces of tree bark and then I saw it, a narrow band of a flat surface (in my favorite color, ammo can green)๐Ÿ˜Ž completely encased in its surroundings. I knew it would take more than sticks and stones to extract it. I had a small hand shovel in the car. As I was walking back to get it I noticed a car parked behind mine, with the lights on. I thought for sure I was busted,๐Ÿ’€ but when I told him that it was my car in front of him (in case he was wondering) he said, with a laptop in his lap, that he just pulled in here for a peaceful place to work. Phew! ๐Ÿ‘

So I took the shovel and went back to unearth the ammo box, but as I was chopping and digging around the ammo can I poked a big hole right through it!๐Ÿ˜ฎ It shattered like glass, and GUESS what...it was a nicely painted Lock & Lock! There was just a log book inside. I knew I had some cache containers in the car, as I was out on a maintenance run today, (except for this one cache.)

So I took the logbook back to the car and signed in. Then I took a medium sized camoed pill bottle, and rolled up the logbook tight enough to just barely fit inside. I went back to GZ and put the pill bottle inside the frozen lidless L&L, and covered it back up with much more tree stuff than was there before, but much easier to find and get to. I'm sorry for smashing the cache. The pill bottle will be fine for now. But you might need a tweezers (or pliers) to get the logbook out.๐Ÿ˜‰

Jeanne and I stopped by here with Scott while on our way to Arnold Park for a round of Frisbee Golf. I pulled up to GZ and let them shoot for this one. Together they picked it off immediately. Nice cache!

Grabbed this on the way to Don & Donna's campsite on the lake at Lithia Springs. Great lunch, now we're all ready to go caching some more, if the wind doesn't blow us away. (Not complaining, we are having the best weather anyone could ever ask for this weekend)
