This card is dedicated to those individuals whose selfless acts of heroism will never be forgotten. . More than 19,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the United States and it is with great honor that this card pays a lasting tribute to each of these officers by preserving their memories, selfless courage and heroism exhibited by officers who lost their lives while serving and protecting the citizens of this great nation. On average, one law enforcement officer is killed somewhere in America nearly every other day. The first known line-of-duty death occurred in 1791, when New York's Albany County Constable Darius Quimby was shot and killed.

On average, more than 62,000 law enforcement officers are assaulted each year, resulting in some 21,000 injuries.
The deadliest year in law enforcement history was 1974 when 271 officers were killed. The deadliest decade was the 1970s when a total of 2,231 officers died, or 223 each year. That figure dropped dramatically in the 1990s to 156 per year.
The deadliest day in law enforcement history was September 11, 2001, when 72 officers were killed while responding to the terrorist attacks on America.
