I would like to visit all of the caches on the Lewis and Clark Trail and some day return safely home.
"The greatest traveler of my species. My name is Seaman, the dog of Captain Meriwether Lewis, whom I accompanied to the Pacific Ocean through the interior of the continent of North America." This was reportedly written on the collar worn by Seaman after his return.
Seaman's journey with the Corps of Discovery began when Captain Lewis purchased the Newfoundland dog for $20 in 1803. Seaman served as a hunter, retriever, early warning system against grizzly bears, guard dog, faithful companion, and even saved the captain's lives. Some reports indicate that Seaman may have stayed with Lewis until his death in 1809, and may have even remained at his master's grave until he also died.
Seaman, the travel bug companion, starts his journey from Cross Ranch State Park in central North Dakota.
