I want to travel from cache to cache and raise awareness of bicycle safety. At some point my owner would love to see me, so if you can drop me closer to Minneapolis, Minnesota, I'd be grateful.
Photos of my adventures are always welcome. I'd especially be fond of photos with bicycles in them.
Thanks for moving me on, and Happy Geocaching!
Bicycle Safety
Bicycles are a great way to travel. Children especially love them! But too often riding a bicycle ends up in serious injury or death. Consider this information on bicycle riding in the USA:
• In 2007, there were 43,000 bicycling injuries in traffic. 12,000 of them were children aged 15 or under.
• In 2007, 698 people died from bicycling accidents.
The good news is that these figures improved over their counterparts from 2006. The sad news is that most of these injuries and deaths could have been prevented. Here are a couple of steps you can take to help:
Drivers:
• Watch for bicycles, and consider that children on bicycles are likely to make unexpected or uncontrolled turns. Anticipate the unexpected and give bicycle riders a wide berth.
Bicyclists:
• Wear a proper helmet. Watch for cars. Anticipate the unexpected. When in traffic, don't take unnecessary risks. Thank drivers for kind actions.
Parents:
• Make sure that your children wear a proper helmet, and that they wear it properly. Doing so reduces the chance of head and brain injury by 63 to 88 percent.
Thanks, and have a great time geocaching!
