Retrieve It from a Cache 4/12/2010 joespaz retrieved it from Sibley - Odd Trail Out California   Visit Log

Grabbed this today, here is my log from the cache I found it in:

When my brother WRITE SHOP ROBERT told me that one of his personal Geocoins was in Montclair, I had to refrain myself from heading out in the middle of the night to go get it. However, running all the way to Oakland in the middle of the night didn't sound like the smartest idea for one coin, so instead I spent the night looking for other caches that I could visit while in the area. I wanted to visit caches that had multiple trackables in them, what I sadly found out is that most of the caches had trackables listed that were actually missing. I plan to work with Eartha the forum moderator to get the trackables marked as missing, so I hope other cachers won't have the same problems that I did. Now about this cache:

Sibley - Odd Trail Out: WOW! What a great view...and this is the view as I am driving to GZ...I have never been here before but the hills in the background of Sibley park are awesome. I was driving along Grizzly Peak Blvd and I saw my GPS said 200 feet, then the numbers started getting bigger. I flipped a Uie and noticed a small bike track that led to the trail only 15 feet from the road. I pulled over, hoping that this wasn't illegal parking, and started up the trail towards GZ. At the top of the small hill I saw a nice bench that could be used for enjoying the other awesome view here of the Golden Gate and the SF Bay. My GPS took me about 30 feet off trail and down the hill a bit. I started looking where I zeroed out, but was beginning to have second thoughts because I didn't see a place for a "regular" cache. I started expanding my search area, and to my surprise found a very big container about 20 feet away.

The cache container is a very big plastic container, bigger then a large ammo can. It is covered with camo tape that doesn't quite match the surroundings so it is kinda easy to spot. The two handles didn't appear to be completely closed, and I did discover a little moisture inside. I was worried about my parking situation so i didn't take the cache back to the car, but I did place the items in a new zip lock that I stole from one of the Trackables I found in the cache. The two handles had come out of their slots so I worked on it and was able to fix them. This allowed me to completely close the container. It would be nice if a future cacher could bring a few napkins to wipe any moisture that you find. Also, I figured out later that there is a perfectly legal spot to park right up the road that is just as close to GZ, so don't take the risk I did. As I headed back into Montclair and down Snake Rd. I saw that a tree had fallen and was blocking half the road and hanging precariously on a wire above, I got a neighbor to call it into 911 as I had no cell service.

This would be a great cache to drop off those extra large TB's that we all come across sometimes. Thanks for bringing me to this beautiful location, I'll definitely be back!

Good grief! Todie Phillips was only a few weeks younger than me! How tragic that his life was cut short by a thoughtless act. I'll find an appropriate place to cache this. Thank you.

Too many riders get snuffed out due to careless drivers. Motogrrl was a riding cacher from my area in the Bay Area that met a similar fate a few years ago. Be safe out there. Onward...
