AUTO TRADUÇÃO PARA O PORTUGUÊS
Her current goal is to see as much of Portugal as possible. Sam the Koala, as featured on this coin, is hungry after the Victorian bush fires swept through her forrest. She is pleased to be in Portugal now as there are many trees of his type (eucalyptus/gum trees). So please give her a good feed of eucalyptus as possible and show her as much of your country/culture as possible.
This geocoin was released as part of a fundraiser for the 2009 Victoria Bushfire Appeal, in response to the fires known as Black Saturday. These fires which burnt on Saturday, the 7th of February 2009, resulted in 173 deaths and 500 injuries, Australiap's highest ever loss of life from a bushfire. So this geocoin certainly also travels in memory of those people.
Although I normally live in Melbourne, I was 400-500 km away in Tasmania at the time of the fires. The difference in temperature was about 20°C less where I was that day. It was certainly hard to believe that fires had been doing so much damage close to home.
Please note that the real Sam the Koala, featured on this coin recently died of cancer. So this also serves as a memory of her. Of course she still needs her regular feeding! .
