Current Goal

To travel Middle-earth from one cache to another in the spirit of friendship between all the Free Peoples of the world. May it nevermore be plundered by goblins, hobgoblins, orcs or muggles!

About This Item

In Eregion (Air-RAY-gyun) long ago, many Elven coins were made, and they were (of course) of various kinds. Many were crafted by the Gwaith-i-Mírdain (People of the Jewel-Smiths), descendants of the Noldor, the High Elves of the West. In those days there was, if not friendship, then at least affinity between the Elves of Eregion and the Dwarves of Moria, with whom they would often trade.

The origin of this coin is shrouded in the mists of time, but it seems to have been made of mithril (Moria-silver or silver-steel, more highly prized than gold by the Dwarves of yore) with enameling of aquamarine, a type of beryl beloved by the Elves. By the tengwar script and elvish device upon it, it would seem to have been minted by the Noldor, perhaps for trade with Durin's Folk or the Men of Númenor. When Moria and Eregion were overrun and sacked by the evil armies of the Lord of the Rings, many beautiful treasures were lost, seemingly forever.

How this coin came to be here, who now can say?
