Current Goal

I would love for this item to make it to each state. It is asking a lot but real butterflies travel hundreds of miles in their short life, so who knows?

About This Item

I have chosen the black-veined butterfly as my symbolic geocoin. I searched for the perfect representation of everything I want to express, and the butterfly is it.
Dating back for centuries, ancient civilizations have believed that butterflies were symbols of the human soul.
The Chinese and Japanese both believed that the butterfly was a symbol of joy and the essence of happiness.
Some Native American cultures believed that if someone wanted a wish to come true, he should capture a butterfly and whisper the wish to it. Since the butterfly can make no sound, it can tell the wish to no one but the Great Spirit. They felt that making the wish and releasing the butterfly would help it be taken to the heavens and granted.
From ideas of reborn spirits to dream carriers to weather forecasters to bringers of fertility, the butterfly has been a captivating and charming creature that has interested mankind for ages.
Perhaps my favorite reason for choosing the butterfly as the symbol for my caches, though, is the fact that the butterfly is a multicultural symbol for the beauty of Nature. They represent the rich colors and the graceful beauty that is nature.
My hope is that as you find these coins and pass them along that you will whisper your wish to them before they pass out of your hands. It might just some true.

When I frist pick this coin up I thought it was a unactivated coin like the card said it was and it was still sealed in a plastic wrapping. I had to open the sealed wrapping to get it out of the plastic envelope and turned over to read the tracking number. Surpised me it already had an owner. I will get it on to another cache next weekend. Thanks,
