Mare (Latin for sea of tranquility) Is a mare (maanzee) the moon. The mare is formed by a large impact basin filled with basalt--lava, Making it a relatively flat surface. The impact basin has irregular edges and there is no clear pattern of multiple rings seen. This mare is known as the landing site of the first manned space aircraft on the Moon, the Apollo 11. The mare lies northeast of the Mare Fecunditatis, Southwest of the Mare Crisium, Southeast of the Mare Serenitatis and north of the Mare Nectaris. Along the edge of the mare are a number of 'bays': Sinus Amoris, Sinus Asperitatis, Sinus Concordiae, And Sinus Honoris.[1] Irregularities in the topography of the mare and its surroundings caused by the meeting with the Mare Nectaris, The Mare Crisium, The Mare Fecunditatis and Mare Serenitatis with two rings of the impact of the basin Oceanus Procellarum. On the northeastern edge of the mare lies Palus SomniFilled with basalt from the Tranquillitatis. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mare Tranquillitatis (Latijn voor zee der rust) is een mare (maanzee) op de maan. De mare wordt gevormd door een groot inslagbekken dat gevuld is met basalt-lava, waardoor het een relatief vlak oppervlak heeft. Het inslagbekken heeft onregelmatige randen en er is geen duidelijke structuur van meerdere ringen te zien. De Mare Tranquillitatis is bekend als de landingsplek van het eerste bemande ruimtetoestel op de Maan, de Apollo 11. De Mare Tranquillitatis ligt ten noordoosten van de Mare Fecunditatis, ten zuidwesten van de Mare Crisium, ten zuidoosten van de Mare Serenitatis en ten noorden van de Mare Nectaris. Langs de rand van de Mare Tranquillitatis liggen een aantal "baaien": Sinus Amoris, Sinus Asperitatis, Sinus Concordiae, en Sinus Honoris.[1] Onregelmatigheden in de topografie van de Mare Tranquillitatis en haar omgeving worden veroorzaakt door het samenkomen met de Mare Nectaris, de Mare Crisium, de Mare Fecunditatis en de Mare Serenitatis met twee ringen van het inslagbekken van de Oceanus Procellarum. Aan de noordoostelijke rand van de mare ligt Palus Somni, gevuld met basalt die uit de Tranquillitatis stroomde.
