Retrieve It from a Cache 4/1/2006 sniffadogz retrieved it from CC47 Channel View South Wales, United Kingdom   Visit Log

What a very nice coin - I can understand the reluctance to part with it. As Cardiff has been done we'll take it northwards in a couple of weeks.

Dropped Off 3/3/2006 Write and Mane placed it in CC47 Channel View South Wales, United Kingdom - 1.63 miles  Visit Log

On Tuesday, Mane had to go into Cardiff to shop, so we planned that Write would join her later, we would snap a few landmarks with the Geocoin, cross the Bay to the Barrage and leave the coin in Mint 3. But, when it was time for him to leave, Write couldn't find his bus pass, then it started to snow and we remembered that the cache was only a micro, so we called it off. The best laid plans ...
Yesterday, we did the tourist thing using bus passes and legs, taking photographs of a few landmarks with the geocoin. We still intended to take the waterbus across the Bay to find Mint 3, since we hadn't logged this cache. However, we just missed one bus and the next one had been cancelled and we didn't fancy hanging around for nearly two hours. The best laid plans ...
Instead we took the waterbus back into the centre (starts to sound as if Cardiff is the Venice of Wales - well, perhaps, not quite!), as we needed to get onto the Bay for one photograph. Back in the city centre about lunch time, left us prone to the temptations of lunch venues and shops and, by the time we tore ourselves away, it was getting a bit late to get to a cache. The best laid plans ...
Most Cardiff caches are unsuitable for coins or difficult, so we opted for one right on the boundary that has good views over the city and decided to make a walk of it, as we needed to make a maintenance visit to another cache about 2 miles away. It was clear and sunny at home and, from the ridge, the main peaks of the Brecon Beacons could be seen clearly, 25 miles away. But the city centre, no more than 5 miles distant was enveloped in mist, so the image of the view from the cache site requires an act of faith. The best laid plans ...
Ah, well! At least we have fulfilled the Geocoin's objective and got it back into circulation for someone else. All that remains is an easy walk to the other cache and on to home. But this proved slightly more interesting - as soon as we dropped over the north side of the ridge, we entered a snowscape! The best laid plans ...
We hope EU Capital Geocoin enjoyed its visit to the Welsh Capital.

  • Geocoin at Cardiff Castle
  • Recently renovated clock tower, Cardiff Castle
  • Geocoin at Millennium Stadium
  • Geocoin at Millennium Centre
  • Geocoin's view from the waterbus The Millennium Centre is immediately on the right of the coin. Next is the 19C terracotta Dock Office and then the Welsh Assembly building, officially opened by the queen this week. Perhaps the old railway style signals on the left of the picture should also be regarded as a landmark. They controlled ships in and out of the old Bute Docks.
  • Geocoin with view over Cardiff, from cache site
  • Snowscene today!
Retrieve It from a Cache 2/24/2006 Write and Mane retrieved it from CC3 Craig Ruperra (RVR3) South Wales, United Kingdom   Visit Log

Picked up on a maintenance visit with the intention of dropping into a Cardiff cache in the next few days - but have now seen the red note, so will hold until we hear more from owners.

My visit to Cardiff fell through so I leave the coin in a cache near Cardiff for someone else to take care of it.

Oh well - these things are bound to happen sometime!

Actually we hadn't forgotten to log the travelbug into Teston Lock cache - we put it there today and Eclectic Penguin didn't give us a chance to log it in.

Anyway, the Geocoin made it to London as promised and got its picture taken near Southwark bridge with St Pauls in the background - this was the nearest Adam managed to get to a famous landmark!

Grab It (Not from a Cache) 11/26/2005 Eclectic Penguin grabbed it   Visit Log

Actually, this wasn't a "grab it" from minstelcat as the log shows, I found this EU Geocoin in Teston Lock geocache.

I guess this was a very recent drop or minstrelcat forgot to log in the drop, hence the discrepency.

Wow - I may get 2 capital cities in on one find - this hasn't been to London nor has it been to Cardiff. May make it to London in the next week or so - but failing that, Cardiff is a definite over Christmas!

Our apologies for not having moved this bug on yet. We indended to put it in a cache at the weekend but forgot to bring it with us 🤭 then we went to find a cache today to put it in and the cache has gone. We hope to put it in a cache this weekend!
