This geocoin - originating in America's Second City is on a mission to visit major metropolitan areas around the upper 48! We'd like to visit St. Louis, LA, NY, and more!
This 2009 geocoin, from the Second City boasts an enameled picture of the famous Sears Tower on its face. Sears Tower is a 108-story 1,450 feet (442 m) skyscraper in downtown Chicago, Illinois. At the time of its completion in 1973 it was the tallest building in the world, surpassing the World Trade Center towers in New York. The tower remains the tallest building in the United States and the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the world. In 2003, Sears' naming rights expired. The building continued to be called the Sears Tower until London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings, Ltd., agreed to lease a portion of the building and as part of the agreement obtained the building's naming rights. On July 16, 2009, at 10:00 am Central Time, the building was officially renamed Willis Tower. To those of us here in Chicago, this iconic part of our skyline instantly became the "Big Willie!"
Props to the Geocachers of Northern Illinois for minting such a cool coin! Puggle1
