“55 Railroad Nail” This TB is in memory of my father. Dad passed away in September of 2007. He was a Railroad brakeman for 32 years for the Illinois Central Railroad . Dad gave me this numbered nail that is attached to the TB when I was a young boy. Long ago, when they replaced the ties in the railroad tracks, they would drive a nail into the tie with the last two digits of the year stamped on the head to identify the year the tie was replaced.
