I picked this fellow up from a cache while hiking up a trail that should be rated a four star!!
A little ways , uphill from the cache where this fellow was at -- I called it stop-- and started back down toward the car parking area. The GCD cache was not going to be mine. Yes, I am a flat lander from Mississippi, but I have done long trails, hiked rather slowly over snow and ice in Blacksburg Virginia, walked/hike in a desert in South California , even did a full afternoon hike in a dang swamp in Mississippi.
This was one bad a$$ OMG time. I was at a point where one had to climb over a steep set of rocks that created a set of stairs. From one step to the other, was too high for me to climb. I got up over one , stood up and saw the other steps twisting upward and could do no more. Other hikers had to helped me back down the large rock that I just climbed. I found a spot to the side of the trail next to a bending tree and was able to put one foot up(one at a time) to rest the feet. Between other hikers, coming and going -- there were a few tears, some for the loss of GCD but a lot to the leg and back pain I was now in... Beware other catchers who come afterwards... Steep walk, loose rocks, BIG rocks to step over and still, others areas, you must CLIMB over large boulders. Then add in, the thin air --- well maybe if we had started at 8am, ... Well whatever, the trip downward was also hard. Should had two walking sticks instead of just one. ... I used a tree limb found off the side of the trail and was finally able to return.
I plan to take this fellow home to Mississippi and will carry the fish to any other caches I find while still here in Washington state. Maybe I will travel up to Canada for this fellow to check out.
