About This Item

There are a number of ostrich eggshell beads attached to the Travel Bug. These beads were discovered at a location approximately 50m from the shoreline near Schoenmakerskop, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
There are a number of 'kitchen middens' in the immediate area. These middens were the assembly point where the Khoisan people (hunter-gatherers) would gather to prepare their shellfish harvest for cooking. There are numerous books available on this subject such as "Shorelines, Strandlopers and Shell Middens" by John Parkington.

When we found this TB, we knew it's purpose would be better served, with our our next trip in October to Durban. Otherwise we would have placed it back in the place from whence it came (PE - home). For this reason we have placed it tonight, as we are only a few hours in Durban before going back to PE, after a lovely week in the Drakensberg with family & friends.
