To travel as many states as I can in 2010, then to travel the world! Please help move me along quickly!
(From Wikipedia) The Battle of Gettysburg (July 1–3, 1863), fought in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign, was the battle with the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War and is often described as the war's turning point. Union Maj. Gen. George Gordon Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's invasion of the North.
As a War Between The States Reenactor, the highlight of my reenacting career was to attend the 145th Anniversary Battle Reenactment with MacBeth South Carolina Artillery in July 2008. It rained almost the entire weekend, and I was able to spend a lot of time at the Gettysburg National Military Park throughout my week-long visit to the area.
To stand on the same ground where so many men fought and died was truly humbling. You cannot appreciate what those men did until you look across that open field looking toward the "Bloody Angle" from the NC or VA monuments, or stand in Devil's Den, looking up Little Round Top.
Gettysburg is a neat little town, and the people there are very friendly. It was a lot of fun to visit the little shops around town. This is the medallion I wore during the 2008 event (see photos).
I highly recommend visiting Gettysburg, the National Military Park, and attending the annual Battle Reenactment.
