About This Item

AMTG Seven Summits Silver 2005 GC 1

Mid size coin with heft. 1.5 inches 3.5 mm thick satin silver.  800 coins minted.  Available in other metal colors.  This coin has lots of bold crisp 3-D work. The front of the coin has a medallion that shows Mount Everest.  It has raised script that reads “2005 May 29, 1953 Chomolangma Asia”.  The rim has raised script that reads "29,035 and 8,850 M (height)" as well as "Mount Everest”  The 3-D work is excellent as is the brushed background metal texture.  The reverse continues the background texture in the medallion. There is a nice compass rose in raised metal work. There is a commercial logo with the only enamel on the coin.  There is a small prompt space under the "seven summits" which is engraved with the coin number. This is coin number 259. Excellent coin.

Info on coin: The first climbers who reached the summit of Mount Everest did so on May 29, 1953. Hillary's first words after his return were: "Well George, we finally knocked the bastard off".

This is part of a two-part edition (Mount McKinley and Mount Everest).  In Nepal the mountain is called Sagarmatha (Sanskrit for "Forehead of the Sky").  Everest is highest mountain of the Earth.

The name 7 Summits refers to the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.

A Geocache was hidden on the Mount Everest in 2005 (7.570 m - GCP7JV). Unfortunately this has already been archived.

So many of my trackables have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. ER

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually. After looking at the TB page for each TB that she discovered that I didn't, I found that a number of TB Codes necessary to discover the trackable were included on the TB Page itself or intentionally or as a spoiler in the photo gallery. Sometimes there was an attempt to obsure or hide the TB Code that was not entirely successful making it fairly easy to determine the TB Code needed to discover the travel bug.
