About This Item

IYA coin

2009 was officially announced "The International Year of Astronomy" to celebrate that it was 400 years ago that Galileo as the first human used a telescope to look at the skies. Schools, museum, astronomy clubs etc came together to create a number of astronomy events across the globe.

At that time I was president of our local astronomy club "Astronomisk Forening for Køge Bugt". We arranged Star Parties, exhibitions, talks on astronomy in our local area. More than a thousand people attended the astro-events that we arranged.

When I found this coin I had to buy a set. It's a bit late at the coin now is released in 2011, but it brings back nice menories. Please share in the log if you knew about IYA 2009 and possibly participated in some of the fun things that went on during that year.

I got this beautyful coin on our very first evening in Iceland on a trip through the harbor of Reykjavik. My family and me met mumsdk. We talked a little bit and finally swapped two coins. I think, I'll find a very nice cache to place this coin.

I will bring this nice little coin a bit closer to the stars tonight when flying to Iceland. When I get there, I will flash it to the other half of mumsdk, who is waiting for me up there. I am sure, that together we will find a nice new home for this coin in Iceland.
