To make many aware of Autism and its many faces. My grandson came to us through a series of miracles and angels at the age of 5. He has been diagnosed with Autism but that's as far as they can go. He doesn't exactly fit into any one category. A very out going and friendly child with a love for people and animals he captures every ones heart. When he first came to live within the family circle there were two phrases he used regularly. The first was "i fine". You would ask him how he was doing."I fine". was his reply. The other was "Hi Guy". Every time he would see an adult male he would say "Hi Guy". The early days of caching with Christian and my daughter Mercy, son Steven and his Girl Bobbi, were peppered with log entries "68gypsy, ltl t pot, Joki&Zombi and Hi Guy." Autism is a disorder of the brain, not a disease. My daughter wanted me to be sure to make that very clear. As I look back on my own family I can see older members being misunderstood and even commited to institutions. The more I read about this disorder the more I am convinced that Autism does, in deed, have many misunderstood faces.
A beautiful coin with a compass on the face. A red gem sets in the center. The heart of the matter. I offer this coin up as a compass to help each of us find the direction in understanding any "out of the ordinary" behavior and not assuming its one thing or another but taking the time to reach out with our hearts.
