2009 Compass Rose in Antique Silver & Polished Gold

The 2009 Compass Rose Geocoin design comes from a mid 1600s Portuguese map of Brazil. It is made with translucent colors and multiple metal angles in the background. The names of each wind direction encircle the compass rose representing the cardinal and ordinal directions.

The backside image is an armillary sphere. Armillary spheres were developed a few hundred years before the birth of Christ, modified several times as new discoveries were made, and used until the late 1700s. Earlier models have Earth placed at the center of the universe, and then later models reflect the sun in the center of the universe. They were used for navigation, but were not as effective as other methods. In addition, they also helped astronomers to understand the heavens. They were great at measuring distances in the heavens and tracking movements of planets, comets, and other objects. But notably related to our special navigation coin series, they were used extensively for training navigators. The armillary sphere design on this coin is from the same era of the compass rose used on the front side.

In Belgien waren wir dieses Jahr zum BBV Mega Event. Neben den vielen Anbietern für Geocoins und TBs gab es auch viele zu discovern. Tolle Caches, eine feine Lokation und eine gute Organisation haben wir hier vorgefunden. Nächstes Jahr werden wir wieder dabei sein.

Beim Brugse Beer V Mega Event hatten wir dieses Jahr wieder viel Spass. Neben den tollen ausgelegten Caches gab es noch viele Geocoins und TBs zu betrachten und zu discovern. Du bist einer davon. Wir freuen uns schon auf nächstes Jahr und werden bestimmt wieder dabei sein.

Irgendwo auf meiner Reise habe ich diesen schönen TB bzw. Coin wohl gesehen, denn heute habe ich weitere Notizen und Bilder durchstöbert.
Entweder hatte ich dich selbst in der Hand, oder ich habe dich auf einem Event gesehen. Es kann aber auch sein, dass ich dich auf irgendeiner Liste entdeckt habe, die irgendwo Auslag. Oder die Nummer stammt von einem meiner vielen Fotos von TB’s.
Die Möglichkeit, dass ich etwas falsch abgetippt habe….besteht aber leider auch….
Danke für Zeigen und weiterhin gute Reise oder fröhliches Stehen in einer Sammlung.
