The goal of this coin is to see the seven seas and travel by water as much as possible. When possible take a picture of this coin with a boat in the background.
Our son received an appointment to the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. When this coin was activated he had just graduated with a BS in Marine Engineering and a Third Assistant Engineer. He was working and living on Summerwind and racing sailboats for the summer. During his four years of college he spent 360 days at sea on US flagged commercial vessels and traveled to eleven countries in Europe and the Middle East and ports from Texas to Rhode Island and Seattle, WA to Juneau, AK.
When he entered USMMA I noticed that there were no Merchant Marine Coins so I suggest that the folks at CoinsAndPins develop this coin and they did a great job.
