PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THIS COIN IN A CACHE!!! This type of geocoing has a history of disappearing . To keep it safe, I am asking that you hold on to it for a while and bring it from cache to cache (either have it visit or drop it in and take it out), then hand it over to another cacher. Let's see how long we can keep this going!
This geocoin, labeled by the manufacturer as "Stars of the North - Algol", memorializes the "star" Algol (Beta Persei), one of the best known eclipsing binaries, located in the constellation Perseus. It is actually a three-star system, Beta Persei A, B, and C, and is nicknamed the Demon Star.
For more information on Algol, click on either of the following links. Algol on Wikipedia provides interesting facts and history on this eclipsing binary star system. Algol 3 supplies similarly informative material. But this link also features wonderful photo and graphic illustrations, including an attractive animated graphic that demonstrates how the eclipsing system behaves.
