Current Goal

This is one of three Connecticut Geocoins that has been released in recognition of Connecticut's connection with the WILD WEST. This coin is in honor of the Stetson Hat which was originally made in Danbury, Connecticut. This coin's mission is to move from cache to cache around the US with the free spirit of the WILD WEST. It would be fantastic if you could place it in a cache out west. If not, somewhere down the trail would be fine. Thanks for your help! The Ax

About This Item

The first hat factory opened in Danbury, Connecticut in 1780. By 1880 Danbury hatters were making approximately four and one-half million hats per year including the Stetson. By 1895 there were 33 hat manufacturers, and by 1923 there were only 6. In 1987 the last hat manufacturer closed ending over 200 years of hat making in the City of Danbury. Stetson hats are still the most recognized cowboy hat throughout the United States.
