This special travel bug starts its journey at Clayton Wood in East Sussex in the South of England. The cache was created to commemorate the life of Simon Sait, a son, brother and friend to many, who's life was taken in a tragic accident. The original cache is located a stone's throw from Simon's final resting place in Clayton Wood. Simon was a keen geocacher who loved to travel, either for personal growth or for his extensive charity work. We ask that this travel bug is treated with due reverance and we would love to see it travel far and wide, preferably to foreign soils. We look forward to checking its progress and seeing where our fellow geocachers have taken it. Thank you all.
UPDATE August 2013
It's been over 3 years since we placed Simon's travel bug in Clayton Wood and we'd just like to thank the good people out there who have been taking the bug to places we can only dream of. We asked if the bug could go travelling and you haven't let us down. Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Holland, Cyprus (incredibly just 10 minutes from our holiday home there that Simon never got to visit in person!) and it is now making its way across the USA. Every email that arrives saying the bug has been dropped off or collected gives us a smile, it really has been a great way to remember a great man, so thank you again everyone.
PS. I hope Luke Skywalker is still attached to the bug!
UPDATE February 2020
Can you help us get Simon's travel bug to Galaxy's Edge, Disney in Florida?
We started the Luke Skywalker travel bug almost 10 years ago in memory of my brother Simon. I can't tell you how wonderful and how much it has meant to me and my family to see Simon's old Luke Skywalker figure travel the world. Thank you all so much!
In May this year myself and my husband are taking our son to Disney in Orlando, Florida. Our son will be just four years old and my brother would have loved him so much. He would have been the best and proudest uncle ever.
I know this is a long shot, but hopefully not impossible, we would love to reunite with Simon's travel bug, Luke Skywalker, who is currently in Alabama, and take Luke to Disney with us in May this year. That way it will feel like Simon will be part of our trip of a lifetime and it would mean so so much to us.
So if anyone in the Geocaching community can help Luke on his way and get Simon's Travel Bug in the direction of Florida with the end Geocache aiming to be somewhere near Disney in Orlando for May, we would be so grateful.
I've written a blog post here: https://mybalancingact.co.uk/geocache-travel-bug-in-memory-of-a-loved-one/ about our Travel Bug and we're using #lukesgeocachedashtodisney to try and spread the word.
Finally, whether Luke makes it to Florida or not, I cannot thank the wonderful Geocaching community enough for helping the travel bug explore the world. We are so amazed that in almost 10 years the travel bug is still going and has been treated with so much kindness and respect from everyone who has come across it and placed it in new locations. Thank you all so much.
Update July 2025
Our holiday in 2020 was cancelled due to covid. We've finally made it to Orlando for our dream holiday and I would love to know if there has been any updates on our trackable and I would be blown away if we could be reunited with Luke. I know it's a big ask but if there's any updates and by some miracle it can make it's way to Disney Springs in the next couple of days I would be over the moon. I know it's a big ask but worth a try! ~ Rowena
