About This Item

A small hand carved emblem of the Thistle flower. Scotland's national flower. The wood it is carved from is Taxus bacata the Yew. At Fortingal in Tayside is possibly the oldest yew in the world. They are mystical trees and have healing powers. Some authorities say extracts of the leaves can help cure cancer. The bright red berries are loved by birds. The sweet red flesh hides a small black seed which is toxic to humans.
