Scrapcat put this trackable into my keeping so that I can bring it to work and help it accomplish it's journey.
I work at the Dearborn Rouge plant where Mustangs were built for many years. Recently the plant was rebuilt so manufacture F-150 trucks.
The history of the Rouge plant dates back to 1917 when Henry Ford began construction of an auto plant that could take raw materials in and produce everything save the battery for a car in under 24 hours.
He began with 2 Blast furnaces, open hearth furnaces to convert iron to steel, blooming mills, a Hot Mill, a Cold Mill and the assembly plants. During World War One he built Minesweepers for the navy on sight in a plant called Eagle Boats.
Here he instituted the $5.00 work day, as well as the five day work week. The plant was Unionized by Local 600 UAW after the famous Battle of the Bridge in the thirties.
At its height in the 40's and 50's the plant had 100k workers.
Come the late 80's/ early 90's Ford spun-off its steel mill and Rouge Steel was formed. Later it went bankrupt and was bought out by a Russian steel company called Severstal in 03.
I currently work in the Severstal Blast Furnace.
Over the course off the next several days I will carry it with me and get pictures as I can around the plant.
