To visit caches all over the world, and have pictures taken while visiting space institutes.
We were on our way out with friends to introduce them to the great world of geocaching the morning of February 1st, 2003. We were listening to the radio when all of a sudden we heard the news of the Space Shuttle Columbia being lost. We continued to our destination (Fort Desoto Beach), and decided even with the feelings that we all had inside regarding the lost that we would continue with our day, and make the most of it for the kids.
Here is where it turns strange:
Our first cache of the day was THE TWIN TOWERS, and as we opened the cache the first thing that we seen sitting on top of everything was this NASA Conrad action figure. We all just looked at each other in dis-belief, and started talking about how ironic it was that we found him only moments after the crash. We then decided to make him a travel bug so that his journeys could continue on.
We have logged over 180 caches, and never seen a NASA figure in a cache. I have seen some stickers that were from NASA, but this just put us in shock. Especially under the circumstances.
Who knows, maybe he will even get to take a ride in a real space shuttle someday!
