Our languages are getting flooded with abbreviations and it is not uncommon for them to have multiple meanings (for instance I know "TAG" as Taxonomic Architecture Group and not as Tulsa Area Geocachers). Sometimes the original meaning is forgotten or no longer correct. People even make up new meanings to express their (negative) opinion about the item concerned.
