The word capuchin derives from a group of friars named the order of friars minor capuchin, an offshoot from the franciscans, who wear brown robes with large hoods covering their heads.
When explorers reached the American in the 15th century they found small monkeys who resembled these friars and named them capuchins.
Capuchins are black, brown, buff or whitish, but their exact colour and pattern depends on the species involed.
They reach a length of 30 to 56cm (12-22ins), with tails that are just as long as their bodies.
They spend their entire day searching for food. At night they sleep in trees, wedged between branches.
Our capuchin monkey is named Bonobo was born in Birmingham United Kingdom on the 27th of April 2012 at 11:37am.
