This is Geordie bear from Northumberland, North East England we want him to travel Canada and the United States before heading back home to North East England. Take him to interesting places, take pictures and tell us something of the history of where he visits. Look after Geordie and help him on his way.
Geordie Bear belongs to Joe and Luke who who were 8 and 3 years old when we first let Geordie go travelling. We set Geordie free in Ontario, Canada while visiting and wanted to see where he gets to on his travels home. Geordie’s home city is Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. Newcastle has existed for over 900 years since a castle was built to defend the area in Norman times. Archaeological remains date the earliest settlements in the area to over 5000 years ago however the earliest documented settlements were in the First Century AD when the Romans arrived and built the first bridge across the River Tyne.

Inhabitants of Newcastle are known as Geordie’s hence the name Geordie bear. There is not one definitive explanation where the term Geordie came from but the most likely comes from the days of the Jacobite uprising of 1715 when Newcastle stayed loyal to King George the 1st despite the whole of the rest of Northumberland and a large proportion of Scotland uprising against the recent appointment of King George 1st and thus they were loyal to George or Geordies men.
