About This Item

GRACE Satellites (Artist View) (by NASA)

Coin "GRACE1" a.k.a. "Tom" is the twin of coin "GRACE2" a.k.a. "Jerry".

I was inspired to the mission of this two coins by the joint project "GRACE" of NASA and DLR (i.e. the german aerospace agency). Goal of that mission is to measure variations in the gravity field of the earth. Therefore both satellites travel in short distance one after another and monitor each other. Part of the equipment is a GPS based method. All in all this mission affects the daily life of a cacher, because for the sake of our GPS based hunt for innocent caches a fine grasp of the (not really spherical) shape of planet Earth is essential!

In fact all cachers who help "Tom" to travel westward will not provide science with any real  new insights. But it would be at least not amiss to confirm once again, that Earth is not flat at least smiley (And for this goal it's OK for "Tom" and "Jerry" not to travel one after another, but in opposite directions.)

More information on the NASA/DLR GRACE mission can be found here:

Reference number of "Jerry" (just in case you want to see where he's around): TB3JREN

P.S. The reason why I have chosen "Rosetta"-coins, which thematically don't match very well, is that the first coin I ever found was just a "Stone of Rosetta" coin, and I very liked its design smiley

Found this in the Odd Tree Out, I'm from Minnesota so taking it with me to put in a cach in Minnesota that is for sure "Westward".

I did trade for a United States trackable Geocoin, I hope that will travel all over, no special criteria.
