My mission is to travel from geocache to geocache in Illinois and teach geocachers about myself and a little bit about geology. I want to stay in Illinois. If I stray to another state, please help me find my way back.
This trilobite lived in a warm shallow sea that covered Illinois approximately 420 milliion years ago. Trilobites belong to a group of animals known as arthropods (arthro = "jointed" pod = "leg") which also includes insects, crabs, shrimps, spiders, centipedes and millipedes. Trilobites are an extinct class of animals that first appeared in the fossil record in the Cambrian period (approximately 526 million years ago). Many types were extinct by the end of the Devonian period (354 million years ago) but all were extinct by the end of the Permian period (about 250 million years ago).
