This rock, taken off Plymouth Beach in Plymouth Massachusetts U.S.A. looks a lot like the real Plymouth Rock. The Plymouth Rock Monument is a National Monument that marks the sight where the Pilgrims allegedly first set foot when they came ashore in this country back in 1620. The rock, now enclosed and somewhat protected from human contact has been on display in various areas of town over the now distant years. One of the locations was in the center of town and during one of it's moves the rock actually split in half and had to be repaired. People where once able to go up to the rock and touch it and take a chip off of it as a souvenir if they so desired. The powers that be eventually realized that eventually there would be no rock left is this kept up. Adding your initials to this rock as it travels is similar but different to people taking a chip off the real rock.
