This Travel Bug was sent out in November 2010.
Its main Subject is to visit geocaches close to all kinds of astronomic facilities e.g. observatories, planetariums, launch sites, topic-related scientific institutions, ... It would be great if you upload pictures from there. It also likes geocaches, which somehow deal with astronomy.
Despite this, you should not leave it somewhere just because you actually do not aim for such a place. Always keep it travelling from cache to cache. Thank you in advance Hattata
The Archenhold-Thaler is an original piece of the Treptow Giant Telescope, which is the main attraction of the Archenhold Observatory (look at N 52° 29.147' E 13° 28.580'). With a focal length of 21m it is the world's longest movable refracting telescope ever and it is still used for public observations.
During extensive maintenance measures from 1988 to 1990 some parts had to be replaced, mainly the telescopes outer tube. From the original metal of the old tube the so called Archenhold-Thaler (german: Archenhold-Taler) has been punched out. [so far. A more precise and extended description is coming soon. Stay tuned ;) ]
