About This Item

Tlaquepaque

San Pedro Tlaquepaque, also known as Tlaquepaque is a city and the surrounding municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco. During the 20th century it was absorbed by the outward spread of the state capital and is now a neighborhood of Guadalajara. The name Tlaquepaque derives from Nahuatl and means "place above clay land". The area is famous for its pottery and blown glass.

Another Tlaquepaque is the small artist colony that is part of the city of Sedona, AZ, in Oak Creek Canyon. The village of shops and restaurants was established as an artist colony in the 1970s. According to promotional literature it was authentically fashioned after a traditional Mexican village, Tlaquepaque, meaning the "best of everything." This interpretation makes me smile. Nevertheless, a very pleasant morning was passed there in December of 2010. And, there truly is some quality art on display (and for sale).

I am always on the lookout for something to convert to a travel bug. I bought this in a bead shop where custom jewelry was being made on the spot, with items selected by the shoppers themselves.

Cool hiding spot! Wasn't expecting to find this little gem, BamaTransplant'09 & myself, SunKiss65 are team truck drivers who run the lower 48 states, we will "dip" this little TB as often as we can to log miles on it. We are from Alabama and plan to actually drop it there when we return home in a week or so. It's in good company with a Jeep 4x4 who is also on it's way to Alabama with us, with pit stops along the way...
