South Padre Island, TX is located on the Gulf of Mexico at the southern tip of Texas. It is about 10 miles north of the mouth of the Rio Grande River and the Mexico Border. Because of the cool breeze off the Gulf waters, it rarely reaches 100° and almost never gets below 32°. The Rio Grande Valley has Oranges, Pink Grapefruit, and large Lemons harvested from October through March. Carrots, large sweet Onions, and Cabbages are grown through the winter and harvested in March and April. Cotton, Soy beans, Grain Sorghum, and Sugar Cane are the main summer crops.
