Current Goal

The current goal for this bug is to travel NORTHWARD picking up a Philosopher's Stone at each stop.
If it has picked up more than 10 stones, "Philosopher's Stone Collection" should travel back to Basel.
Once you find it please add a small stone to the chain.

About This Item

Philosopher's Stone Collection

Philosopher's Stone ("Stein der Weisen"):
"The stone, also referred to as the "Philosopher's Stone," or the "powder" (Greek xerion, which passed through Latin into Arabic as elixir), was allied to an elixir of life, believed by alchemists to be a liquid derived from it. Inasmuch as alchemy was concerned not only with the search for a method of upgrading less valuable metals but also of perfecting the human soul, the philosopher's stone was thought to cure illnesses, prolong life, and bring about spiritual revitalization. The philosopher's stone, described variously, was sometimes said to be a common substance, found everywhere but unrecognized and unappreciated." (Encyc. Brit., 15th ed., 1976)

... so please be careful and do not mess geocaches with all the liquids and tinctures dropping from the stones ;-) Handle with care if you're close to your car or your mother-in-law. Feel free to add images or descriptions of things you upgraded, perfected, cured and revitalized using the stones!

On sunday, july 10, we did the cache "Totenhaus" which is placed near an old stone grave from the 13th century. A mother with her two-year-old child was buried here. Not far away from this archaeological place we found a curious stone, totally different to all the other stones in the surrounding. We took it to the grave, placed it on top of a big stone and took a photo. Then we thought it would make a beautiful 10th stone for this TB-chain and we wanted to fix it to this chain as soon as we got home.
The next day we were on our way home when we had a terrible car accident. A young girl disregarded our right of way and hit us full power on a crossing of a highway outside town. Our car got totally smashed up but we had a great guardian angel. We survived without broken bones, just with some heavy bruises. The girl's car was also scrap but she wasn't hurt seriously as well.
When we were looking at the whole desaster we discovered a wooden cross beside the road and the police told us later that a mother with her little child was killed at this crossing not long ago. I had to think of the grave at the Totenhaus, the stone we found and this TB. Up to now we couldn't fix this stone to the chain and are still in doubts if we should do so or keep it as our little life saver.
However - this week we will hopefully get a new car and then we will take this stone collection to a cache further north next weekend. It is one of the best TBs we ever had and we would like to give the owner a big THANK YOU from the depth of our hearts.

 • The curious stone at the 'Totenhaus'
 • Our car - total loss If our car would have been hit 4 ft. more to the back - it would have been us instead of the engine being crushed like this....
 • Just after the accident...

What a fantastic Travel Bug, great idea! Fell out of bed this morning to get hold of this one (6.40 a.m.). There are nine beautiful stones on the chain now. We will definitely take the TB up north, hopefully with one stone more, so it can return to Switzerland soon.
Greetings,
Balla & Silly

Found an appropriate stone while caching today, so the TB just got heavier. Since I was caching south of where I picked it up originally, the TB will have to wait a little bit longer before moving (just a short distance) north.
