This trackable has reached its original goal to travel to the birthplace of artist Henri Matisse – Le Cateau-Cambrésis, France or to travel that distance - 3767 miles / 6062km!
Its NEW mission is to make its way back home to the McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a French painter, draughtsman, sculptor, printmaker who, along with Picasso, is considered one of the major artists of the 20th century. He made his reputation as the leader of Les Fauves (French for The Wild Beasts) a group of early 20th century Modern artists whose paintings emphasized strong colour and vigorous brushwork.
“To find joy in the sky, the trees, the flowers...There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” - Matisse
The McMaster Museum of Art, Hamilton owns the complete series of 20 stenciled prints called “Jazz”, plus three other works on paper.
