TARANIS Taranis je považovaný za nejvyššího z Keltských bohů, podobně jako třeba Zeus v Římě. Taranis je velice často zobrazovaný s loukoťovými koly, která badatelé považují za symbol Slunce, dále je zároveň vládcem hromu, blesku, bouří a vůbec nečasu. Dále se mu také obětovalo spálením obětiny (věci, zvířata), pravděpodobně po vzoru blesku, který též způsobuje požáry. Spojení hromovládce a boha Slunce však nemá nikde obdobu. Je těžké se klanět bohovi, který může na jednu stranu rozsévat zkázu bouří a na druhou stranu dávat život slunečními paprsky. Další z atributů Taranise je kladivo, které je symbolem hromové rány. Obdobu najdeme v severském Thorrovi s kladivem Mjolni nebo slovanském Perunovi s palicí Milna.
