About This Item

Mid size coin with heft.  3.5 inches 3 mm thick antique silver. Available in other metal colors. LOTS of 3-D work .  The front has 5 rims!!  Letters (for decrypting codes), blanks. There is script that reads "jjj.trpbpbvapyho-pbz" and "2006"  The center of the medallion has scrip tht reds "ROT 13". The reverse is done with the same excellent 3-D work.  It has two rims.  The script on the inner medallion reads "genpznoxr ng jjj.trbpnpuvwt.pbx.  and fbzrgvzrf vg'f abg nobhg gur ahzorfe!".  Excellent early 2006 coin!!!

Info on the coin:  The term ROT 13 means rotate by 13 letters.

The seventh Geocoin of the Geocoin Club is presented here. On the Geocoinclub blog, Ben aka Bjorn74, along with Trippy1976 (Mike) and Rusty as part of the Rusty & Libby team founder of Geocoinclub(GCC), wrote:

Trippy, Rusty and I were shocked at how many people didn't know about the ROT-13 encryption, which was used to obscure notices on Geocaching.com cache sites. This is a clear sign that paperless caching has become the preferred method for more and more geocachers. In the past, when we all printed out every cache page, the clues were encoded with ROT-13, so you had to make an effort to find the clue. Some of us still try to decipher it on the go, but I think that's less and less the case these days.

For example, the 40 x 3 mm geocoin represents geocaching history a good 5 years after it began, because in the meantime there were tools that enabled automatic translation. The coin, which is divided into 26 segments on both sides, shows the 26 letters of the alphabet offset by 13 digits in the two outer circles. The majority of the text on the geocoin is ROT13-encoded and reads: JJJ on the front. TRBPBVAPYHO. PBZ – WNAHNEL 2006, deciphered: WWW.GEOCOINCLUB.COM – JANUARY 2006

On the back is encoded:
FBZRGVZRF VG'F
ABG NOBHG GUR
AHZOREF!

Just use ROT13 to decode this short text yourself.

GENPXNOYR NG YYY. TRBPNPUVAT. PBZ is probably decodeable from experience without ROT13 with TRACKABLE AT WWW.GEOCACHING.COM.

By the way, there are 5 coins of this geocoin made of fine silver with a bright, almost white shiny surface. These coins have an actual silver content of 99.9% and are therefore of particularly high quality

So many of my trackables have been muggled, I only release new GCs as virtuals.  If you do not approve of this please leave in the cache for a cacher that understands. LL.

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually. After looking at the TB page for each TB that she discovered that I didn't, I found that a number of TB Codes necessary to discover the trackable were included on the TB Page itself or intentionally or as a spoiler in the photo gallery. Sometimes there was an attempt to obsure or hide the TB Code that was not entirely successful making it fairly easy to determine the TB Code needed to discover the travel bug.
