This coin is being set free to travel throughout the forests of New England and the world.; in tribute to the New England Orienteering Club.
For more than fifteen years I have orienteered through the woods and fields of New England traipsing through the spring mud, the summer heat, the incomparabe colors of fall, and even some deep snows. I've canoed rivers, slid down cliffs, crossed frozen streams, been chased by bees, attacked by raptors and an agitated weasel, I've even come face to face with a vampire during a night time event held during the halloween season. Despite the occaisional cut or bruise, getting temporarily lost and almost always finishing last, (my usual time for the courses was listed as HFA, which stood for Had Fun Also) I loved it all, the exercise, the mental challenge, and the comraderie. Though age and physical decline has put an end to my participation in orienteering events I can't pass a stretch of woods without sighing. I'm hoping that this coin will visit some of my favorite orienteering locations.
